Dog Walking and Pet Minding Do's and Don't's
For New or Potential Clients
If you do not have Public Liability Insurance, advise your client of this at your earliest convenience.
Always offer verbal and written references.
Arrange for an initial consultation at no charge. This gives yourself, the client and their pet a chance to get to know each other and to insure suitability for all involved.
Always take full notes of the pet's medical details, and regular vet details. Arrange for full consent of the pet, incase of a medical emergency while in your care.
Only take on 'jobs' that you feel you can comfortably handle.
Existing Clients
Maintain contact with your clients.
Do not take risks with your clients pets. Always exercise caution, when walking in new areas, meeting new dogs etc
Always do the right thing, and pick up your dogs' droppings and dispose of them in suitable bins.
Carry treats with you daily to reward your dogs' (in your care) good behavior and to assist in training.
When entering a home, ensure you leave it safe and secure. Call the authorities or a member of your clients' family if you have any concerns regarding the property.
Don't take animal behavioural problems into your own hands. Discuss a course of action with your client.
